 Euro trip anyone?

Europe is an unbelievable place to backpack. From the gorgeous cobble stone narrow streets to the beautiful historic buildings, it is surreal. I spent approximately seven weeks backpacking throughout some of the most popular and well-known areas. So, if there is one thing I got to know well about Europe, it was the hostels.

Before I go off on all the amazing hostels I have been to in Europe, there are a few things I must say.

First off, how much you enjoy yourself at a hostel can depend on many many things. Examples; the people you surround yourself with at a hostel, the time of year you go to the hostel (off season etc..) and in general, whats going on during that time period.

Needless to say, I had some of my best nights at these hostels and thus, am recommending them. But, just because one person has an unreal time somewhere doesn’t mean the next will and vice versa.

I always say, if you’re traveling make sure to take up every single opportunity that you can. If there’s a pub crawl, go for it. Random people sitting next to you, ask them where they’re from. I always took every chance I had to meet people and enjoy myself.

But, there are times I was so exhausted and took some nights off – those were the hostels where I didn’t have the craziest, fun times because well… I spent the whole time sleeping whereas other people could have had the time of their lives!

This is just my personal perspective I am sharing and I hope you take this advice to your full advantage!

Here I have provided my top 10 favorite hostels.

  1. Saint Jordi Rock Barcelona
I cannot go on enough about this amazing hostel. This was my first stop during my Europe adventures and it exceeded my expectations! (As well, set the bar very high for future hostels). There was always something to do here. One of my favorite things was the ‘family’ dinners. You pitch in about 5 euro’s and get to enjoy a delicious home made dinner. The best part is lots of people join in and this is the best time to meet people!Another great thing about this hostel was the pub crawls and events.Every single night there was something going on. I had so much fun playing drinking games and going out. This was definitely one of the most fun hostels I have ever been to!

  2. Flying Pig Amsterdam
This is the hostel where I decided to spend 200 euros on shots. No not for myself but for every single person around me. Woke up the next morning regretting that decision…The energy in this place was unreal! There is a big bar, pool area for everyone to hang around. As well, at the back, there’s a smoking room (seems essential in Amsterdam, right?).Though you’re not able to bring outsiders into the hostel, it is an amazing place to stay at in Amsterdam. The location was perfect. Close to all important amenities, clubs, bars, and attractions. As well It wasn’t difficult to get to when getting there by public transit.I found the beds comfortable and the facilities extremely clean. This is definitely a place I would love to bring my besties and go back to again!

  3. Carpe Noctem Original Budapest Hungary
This is a ‘home away from home’ hostel. If you are a solo traveler, this is the place you must stay at.
The staff were extremely friendly. There is always something going on and the vibe is perfect for meeting new people.Every person that I spoke to at this hostel said that this was their favorite hostel they had ever been to. The vibe was unbelievable and the location was perfect. The rooms were extremely clean and facilities were great. If you’re going to Budapest solo or with a group of friends, this is a must go to hostel.

  4. Boho Hostel Malta
Ah, Malta. If you want to go to one of the most beautiful places in the world, you must go to Malta. And, you must stay at the Boho Hostel.Like the name says, it is a Boho themed hostel. There are hammocks outside and a great bohemian feel to the place.I found it so easy to meet people here. By the end of my weeks stay, it seemed like everyone was family.Again, the place was beautiful but most importantly, it was clean! I believe the owner is British and she was such a genuine lady who made sure everything was up to standards.

  5. Paraga Beach Hostel Mykonos Greece
Another great hostel. Paraga Beach Hostel had a great view and a great pool.Overall, the vibes at this hostel were upbeat and fun. Everyone wanted to explore the island and enjoy the crazy nightlife Mykonos had to offer.Though Mykonos can be quite spread out, I did find this to be a good location. Actually, compared to other hostels on the island I found this to be a great location. Also, the hostel has great security which I found extremely important while traveling solo.

  6. St. Christophers Inn (London bridge) London, England
When it comes to location, I would say this hostel has to beat it. It is extremely close to the tube so accessing any part of London was easily done. It is only a five-minute walk to the London bridge and has coffee shops and convenience stores surrounding the area.I found it very easy to meet people at this hostel since it has a bar attached to it. So, meeting people in the common areas is easily done.Additionally, I took full advantage of the British lifestyle and had fish and chips at the bar almost every night. (Healthy, right?)There are two locations. I only stayed at the London Bridge location but if you’re looking for something similar but quieter there is another just down the street.

  7. Wombats City Hostel Vienna
A great thing about staying in a Wombats Hostel chain is, you usually get a discount if you stay in another cities Wombat. I got 10% off my stay at the Wombats in Berlin. So, if you’re someone who’s trying to save a dollar or two, this is a great place to stay. (Looking to save money while backpacking Europe? Check out my post on ways to save money while backpacking Europe here.)Again, this hostel had a terrific vibe and the facilities were clean! When living out of hostels there’s nothing worst than having to put up with dirty showers or never cleaned toilets. Ew.Wombats always provides you with free city maps and are almost always in great locations. I don’t exactly remember why but I didn’t use any public transport in Vienna. I actually walked the whole city by foot. Maybe to burn off all the beer I drank back at the hostel?Nonetheless, I traveled here solo and had an epic time meeting people in the rooms and common areas. A definite must stay place in Vienna.

  8. Hostel Elf Prague
There is nothing better than a free breakfast! This is usually when I met friends here at Hostel Elf. Another great hostel to socialize and meet new friends.I remember going to the pub crawls and having some of the best nights here. Though the location was a little out of the way, the cleanliness and atmosphere made up for it.

  9. Wombats City Hostel Berlin
Again, you can’t go wrong with a Wombats hostel. They are always super reliable and very clean. This one was located close to the city center and had a beautiful rooftop bar that made partying so fun. Every night there was a happy hour and food specials. I met a great group of friends there and had a wonderful time.

  10. Pella Inn Athens Greece
Did someone say roof top bar? Overlooking the famous Acropolis, there is nowhere better to enjoy the city lights while having a drink. I found this locations amazing and the staff were seriously incredible.Nonetheless, Athens was amazing and I had the time of my life. It was an amazing hostel to stay at while traveling alone because the way the hostel is run and organized is perfect for meeting people. I had wild nights here and will definitely be going back.

I love hearing your feedback, If you’ve ever been to any of these hostels let me know how your experience was.
However, these are not in order of which I liked more or less, they were all great and can’t choose between any. If you’re booking your Eurotrip and are looking for hostels to stay at, I hope you find this list helpful!
